CityNorth’s Verde’ Maison

Ever wondered what exactly you’re putting on your skin or in your hair every day and if any of the ingredients can eventually harm you? Or do you just settle for buying products sold at your local grocery store for the obvious convenience and trust that because it’s FDA approved, it must be okay? I don’t know about you, but I’m too busy to investigate every product I buy to make sure it’s perfectly healthy for me. But with the organic revolution slowly taking over the markets and cancer becoming a leading cause of death, one has to wonder and worry about our daily lifestyle choices and the affects it may have on our future.

Welcome Verde’ Maison (French for green house), the new organic and all-natural cosmetics and skin care store at CityNorth! Their motto: “Because sometimes the most important ingredient is not what you put in but what you leave out.” Verde’ Maison is proud to be the first cosmetic, bath and skincare store in the US specializing in international lines free of “questionable ingredients.”

Store Owner Roxana Cooney founded this ingenious store after learning her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. To try and immediately reverse the problem, she began researching and came across a report revealing paraben preservatives in the majority of breast cancer tumor studies. According to Verde’ Maison’s Web site, these preservatives are currently used in hygiene products and can be absorbed into the tissues. They have been known to mimic estrogen and attach themselves to the estrogen receptors in male and female bodies adding to “estrogen dominance,” which has been noted as a key contributor to cancer. With shockingly so few organic products free of paraben, Cooney and her husband opened Verde’ Maison (which is also safe from propylene glycols, petrolatum and sls’s) in 2003.

Not only are these products healthier for you, they are more affordable than the average skin or hair care line (with “icky” additives). Verde’ Maison also offers amazing spa services, such as waxing, facial and tints.

So next time you need to get beautified or stock-up on beauty products, stop by CityNorth’s all-new Verde’ Maison and peruse the wide-range of all-natural must-haves.

  1. Scoping out labels gets so annoying–It’s nice to know that ALL the products in this store are good for you! Very cool.

  2. This is just so much more important than your average, ‘hey we are all organic’ kind of spa/shops. I appreciate the fact that Roxana really did her research about the connection between paraban preservatives, beauty products and breast cancer. My best friend’s mom died of breast cancer almost a year ago, so I’m all about supporting any business that really takes health AND concerns about breast cancer seriously. Thanks Roxana, I’ll see you soon!

  3. Constantly on the go, I never really took any time to read the labels of what products I was using. To be honest, after my salon products ran out, I would venture to the closet grocery store for convenience. This article has helped to educate me on something I was extremely clueless about. With CityNorth in close proximity to everything, I will certainly be visiting Verde’ Maison.
