5 Stress-Relieving Foods

You finally finished your 2010 taxes, you have 50 emails before you’ve even had your morning cup of coffee, your children have a schedule of their own and bills seem to never go away. Add all of these factors up and you get heart-pounding, nauseating, can hardly breath STRESS. However uncomfortable this may be, it is also the leading cause of many diseases. So how do we stop ourselves from feeling stressed when life happens? For starters, you could nibble on some healthy foods (not a big tub of ice cream) known to relieve stress and give you a burst of energy to help get you through those long days.

Tuna
A tuna sandwich on your much-needed lunch break is always a good idea. Tuna is not only a great source of protein, but is also full of Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, protein, potassium, selenium, and vitamin B12. Your stress is as good as gone!

Blueberries
When you’re feeling blue, have some blueberries! This sweet and tasty fruit is loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C—a natural stress reliever. Plus it is high in fiber for that extra healthy boost.

Almonds
When the going gets tough it’s nice to have a bag of almonds in your desk. These crunchy snacks relieve stress and are full of Vitamin E, B2, zinc and magnesium. Plus they are filled with Omega-3 fatty acids.

Beef
Ok this may not fit into your diet, but if you’re having a stressful day it can be the ultimate cure. Beef is rich with zinc, B vitamins and iron. So maybe instead of the bland old chicken, add some beef to your lunchtime salad.

Cottage Cheese
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… Cottage cheese is just what the doctor odered. It’s chock-full of protein and calcium. But when you mix it with some oranges that are rich with Vitamin C, you can kiss your stress goodbye!
