University of Arizona in the Summer

 
 
 

School is out at the University of Arizona in Tucson, but there is still plenty to do around campus. Summer does not mean there is nothing to do—it just means you will have an easier time finding a parking spot on campus! Here are some things for Wildcat supporters to look out for this summer.

Baseball
On June 1 the Arizona Wildcats will take on the Missouri Tigers in their first game of the Tucson Regional—an NCAA Baseball Championship Regional. The tournament will take place June 1-4, with future times and dates to be announced on the website. Support the Wildcats at Hi Corbett Field as they play their way to the 2012 NCAA Championship.

Arizona State Museum
Arizona State Museum, which charges a $5 admission but is free to military personnel, staff, and students, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday all summer. Guests can experience a docent-led tour through the Paths of Life exhibit, look up historic documents in the library, arrange a curator-guided group tour, or just stroll through the museum to beat the summer heat.

Main Gate Square
Even with school not in session, the restaurants and shops throughout Main Gate Square are still open and hopping. Have a wine night at Wilko, and then stroll shops like Grand Central Clothing, Pitaya, or American Apparel. Guests can also enjoy sushi at Fuku Sushi, or watch the baseball game at Gentle Ben’s.

Ben’s Bells
The Ben’s Bells Project, a charity group that symbolizes kindness and the power in healing, is open all summer and conveniently located in Main Gate Square. Guests can volunteer their time and paint chimes for the project, while enjoying the day from a shaded spot outside.

Mirror Lab Tours
The Steward Observatory Mirror Lab at the UA offers a unique opportunity for guests to enjoy the groundbreaking work being done by the facility. The mirror lab develops and implements technologies that assist telescope mirrors. Guests can experience a behind-the-scenes tour for $15 each, $8 for students. Tours are conducted from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
