The heat isn’t over yet, so you might as well soak up those rays in the best way possiblea houseboat party! Vacationing on houseboats at Lake Powell is a popular getaway during the sizzling season. Kelly Zwierzchowski, district manager at Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas offers up a few tips to make your brief foray into the nautical life a pleasant one.

Imagine yourself kicking back on the wooden deck of a houseboat, lounging in your favorite lawn chair and sipping your favorite brew. Or maybe you’ve invited friends and family for a day of music, food, fishing and swimming. If you decide to plan a final summer trip on a houseboat, be sure to take these tips into consideration:

Plan Ahead

There are so many gorgeous (and extremely popular) places to see around Lake Powell including Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Antelope Canyon, and Tower Butte, so be sure to plan out what you want to see and make sure you have the proper information about each destination before heading there. Hundreds of secluded beaches are sprinkled along the coast as well where you can plan to have a more private escape.

Food for Thought

Make a list of meals you plan to prepare and gather all ingredients before starting your houseboat vacation so you’ll have everything you need for the duration of your stay. If you happen to forget anything, various supplies are available at the marina store nearby. In addition, visitors can opt in for a grocery delivery program, where a large selection of products and produce are delivered to your houseboat the day you “set sail.” Vacationers can also do a chef-on-board program (psst! a professional chef will come aboard your houseboat and prepare all of your food). Items to consider bringing along: paper plates, paper cups, plastic utensils, plastic containers or self-closing bags to store any leftovers, foil and plastic wrap, paper towels and kitchen towels, meals, drinks, snacks, seasons for meats and condiments.
