Searching for your next summer travel adventure? Look no further than the Grand Canyon State. The Arizona Office of Tourism is reminding residents of the impact travel has on the local economy by launching its Summer in AZ campaign. Through SummerinAZ.com, Arizonans can find inspiration for weekend getaways around the state and all just a short drive away.

Throughout the summer, we will provide vacation ideas to Arizona Foothills readers. Whether you’re looking to relax by the pool or lakeside, see some of Arizona’s most iconic sights or plan a family adventure to be remembered for years to come, we’ll have ideas for you that are sure to help create your dream trip. And, we are even awarding one lucky winner who enters the “Pin 2 Win” contest a local getaway valued at $1,500.

Planning your Arizona-based vacation doesn’t have to take months, either. We’ve compiled a few ideas for some last-minute getaways for Memorial Day weekend that are easy to get to with plenty of activities:

1. Cool Off Up North

Head north for cooler temperatures this weekend and take in the sights of Prescott. Stroll through Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row in the heart of downtown and grab something to eat at one of the area’s many cafés or coffeehouses. Visitors can also hike one of the popular trails in the Prescott National Forest and cool off afterward with a visit to Watson Lake Park for some fishing, kayaking, canoeing or boating.

2. Head Down South

Escape to Tucson and enjoy some authentic Southwestern comfort. Famous for its dramatic beauty, the Sonoran Desert’s destination spas, resort hotels and golf courses offer an ideal casual pace for the long weekend. Vacationers can visit the famed Fourth Avenue shopping-and-dining district or head southeast and spend the day on the trails of Chiricahua National Monument.

3. Stay Local

Looking to embrace the sophistication of greater Phoenix instead of hitting the road? Plan a staycation at one of the Valley’s upscale resorts and sip cocktails poolside, or get into a cultured mindset by visiting one of the many theaters, museums or artist galleries in the area. From chic shopping and dining to luxurious spas and world-class golf courses, there are plenty of not-to-miss experiences waiting right in your own backyard.

We hope you find the vacation you’re looking for here in Arizona, and we’d love to be a resource for you. To start planning your weekend getaway or to enter the “Pin 2 Win” contest, visit www.summerinaz.com.
