As spring brings new life to the Valley, museums are also opening new exhibits for everyone to enjoy. Discover rock ‘n’ roll, intricate jewelry and extreme science, just to name a few. Here is a roundup of nine amazing museum exhibits that you don’t want to miss.


 

Chihuly in the Garden

Credited with revolutionizing the studio glass movement, artist Dale Chihuly has brought an exciting twist to the Desert Botanical Garden which opened November 2013 and closes on May 18. Beautiful and intricate glass work combined with desert inspiration and vivid colors are spread throughout the garden for a truly mesmerizing experience. The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not

Wacky statues, oddities galore, and strange happenings are taking over the Arizona Science Center on Feb. 10-May 4. Robert Ripley’s perplexing illusions are making an appearance this spring showing the Valley the true science behind some of the world’s most intriguing and astonishing artifacts. Crawl through a life-size model of the prehistoric snake, Titanoboa, view a portrait of Einstein made out of toast, and even measure up to the world’s largest man (8’ 11” tall). Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power

Created by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, comes the “Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power” exhibit in Phoenix at the Musical Instrument Museum. This special exhibition illustrates rock and roll from its inception through today. More than 70 artists are featured as well as iconic costumes, artifact spotlights and instruments. Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection

As a UN Ambassador and the Secretary of State for the Clinton Administration, Madeleine Albright vibrant, attention grabbing pins to quietly communicate volumes. Her incredible collection of pins including antiques and fine jewelry can now be seen at the Phoenix Art Museum until April 20. This exhibit features more than 200 pins all handpicked by Albright to express a mood or message during her diplomatic term. Art & The Animal

SAA’s (Society of Animal Artists) mission is to promote excellence in the portrayal of domestic and wild animals in art. Known as the most prestigious artist membership organization, SAA will be featuring their traveling exhibition at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum starting Jan. 11-April 6. Sculptures and flatworks which combine natural history and fine art can be found in the Ironwood Gallery. Click here for more information.

The Mesa Arts Center will be opening an exhibit call M8k Marks on Jan. 24. Drawing, painting, and printmaking form various resident artists and current and former faculty. Workshops and programs are open to the public. Make sure to appear at the opening reception on Feb. 14 for musical entertainment, cash bar, and diverse artists. The Steele Gallery at the Phoenix Art Museum will be opening an exhibit called “Lifelike” on Feb. 5. This exhibition uses a playful lens to analyze everyday objects and situations. Inspired by 1960’s artists, the work escapes the bind of brands for a sleek more everyday feel and transforms the ordinary into something intriguing, loaded with narrative and metaphor.  

The Five Senses

Try something new by attending “The Five Senses” exhibit at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art opening on Feb. 1. Indulge in your five senses through this well-orchestrated exhibit of fans, food, smells and more. Deviating from the normal museum etiquette, this exhibit will be one to test your sensory perception in a completely different way.

Montezuma’s Revenge

Contemporary Mexican-American artist Eduardo Sarabia will be opening his first solo exhibition at the ASU Art Museum on Jan. 25. More than 40 works of art from a variety of mediums will be showcased.
