This week, AFM caught up with Todd Cernohous, Director of Golf at Blackstone Country Club.

How did you get into the golf industry?

I landed a job at Troon North working outside service and I found that I loved working at a golf course. I had a great boss who encouraged me to pursue the golf business.

What is your favorite Arizona golf course, besides your own?

Forest Highlands in Flagstaff, Ariz.

What is your favorite hole at your club and do you have any tips for playing it?

Hole No.9. It requires three accurate shots and the ability to control the distance you hit each shot. Play your tee shot short of the fairway bunker. Hit your second shot as far down the fairway as possible leaving a short approach shot to the green. I don’t recommend playing for the green in two shots as this can result in a big number. The third shot requires hitting the shot the exact distance to the green. Short leaves you in the wash in front of the green and long leaves an impossible next shot. I have made nine on this hole on more than one occasion.

What is your most memorable golf moment?

Playing golf at Glen Eagles in Scotland in driving rain and 40 mph winds.

If you could play golf with anyone, who would it be and why?

Scott Landin and Kevin Kealy, I grew up playing golf with them as juniors.

The Rim Club in Payson, Ariz.

What do you like to do off the course?

Spend my time with my family.

What is one piece of golf equipment that you can’t live without?

A 60 degree wedge.
