This Week, AFM caught up with Chris Schwartz, Head Golf Pro at Encanterra, a Trilogy Country Club.

How did you get into the golf industry?

Long story short, I was filling out college scholarship applications and came across the PGM program at New Mexico State University. I liked playing golf and was good at it, so I thought to myself what a great job, to be able to work outside and spread the game of golf. And so it started.

What is your favorite Arizona golf course, besides your own?

Good question! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to play as many as I’d have liked to. As of right now, I’d have to say The Gallery Golf Club in Marana.

What is your favorite hole at Encanterra and do you have any tips for playing it?

My favorite hole is hole No. 16. The fairway is dissected with a stream that runs from the left to right and then back to the left in front of and around the green. This hole forces players to make several decisions. How far do I hit the tee shot? Sometimes the longer play needs to play a fairway wood or hybrid from the tee. Then the second shot is played over the stream to an elevated green that slopes off in nearly every direction. The safe shot is to the right side of the green but often times it will run off the green to a collection area if not struck solidly. Bring your short game for the next shot as it will give you all you want. However, a well placed second shot can still give you a great look at birdie.

What is your most memorable golf moment?

My most memorable moment was playing a tournament on Pinehurst No. 2 making my first hole in one on the 9th hole.

The beverage cart is approaching, what do you order?

For me it’s a red Gatorade and sometimes a snickers.

Favorite 19th Hole?

Another good question, I’d have to say Apps and Après here at Encanterra.

What do you like to do off the course?

I like to spend time with my family. I enjoy the time I get to spend with my wife and son.

What is one piece of golf equipment that you can’t live without?

A good sand wedge. It can be a savior to a golf round.
