Foodie news roundup for the week of Nov. 7.
The annual Wagyu and Wine Event is now taking place at the Scottsdale and Phoenix Capital Grille locations. Available for lunch or dinner, the special is just $25 for a wagyu beef burger, truffle fries and a premium wine (you have two choices). (The glass of wine by itself is usually $23.) The offering is good until Nov. 22.
Save the date as The Slider Throwdown will take place at Kierland Commons on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 12 to 3 p.m. Local food trucks will compete for the title of Best Slider. Food trucks such as Phil the Grill, Aioli Burger, Spice it Up, Buzz N Bee, Butta Burger, One True Love and more will give attendees the opportunity to taste their most delicious sliders. The sliders will be judged by local “slider experts” as well as by the attendees via their People’s Choice votes. $25 includes admission into the event and one slider from each participating food truck. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation (AFFCF).
CopperWynd Resort & Club’s Flourish Restaurant (pictured) has debuted Sunday Champagne Brunch. In addition to brunch favorites, the buffet will feature dishes that incorporate anti-inflammatory ingredients and a decadent dessert table enables guests to end their weekend on a sweet note. Brunch takes place 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. $42 per adult, including unlimited Champagne or mimosas and $21 per child, ages 6-12.
LA SALA Tequila Cantina, sister and neighbor to The Living Room wine café & lounge, is slated to open in Downtown Ocotillo on Nov. 18 and will dish up the mesquite-grilled flavors of Mexico and Latin America. The opening of LA SALA will be the final addition to The Living Room’s five-month renovation project, which began last June. The Living Room’s kitchen has quadrupled in size and will be shared with LA SALA.
Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill has announced Phoenix Children’s Hospital as the recipient of the Cornbread for a Cause charitable campaign, through Dec. 31. The restaurant group has donated more than $115,000 to local nonprofits in Arizona and Texas through this giving program since it launched in December 2015.
On Sunday, Nov. 14, Liberty Market in Gilbert is hosting its first annual Sunday Picnic under Gilbert’s water tower. All proceeds go to ALS Association Arizona Chapter. Arizona Wilderness Brewing will host a beer garden as a part of the picnic, with beers being $5 per glass (proceeds from the beer garden go to ALS Association Arizona Chapter as well). Tickets are $20, and guests receive a short rib sandwich, potato salad, kale salad, apple pandowdy, water and soda. Music will be provided by Gilbert Town Fiddlers.
Now through Nov. 30, Macayo’s launches its Macayo’s Memory Contest to allow its guests to share their favorite restaurant memories from the past seven decades. Submit your Macayo’s Memory online for a chance to win a trip to Mexico. All submissions will be reviewed by our Macayo Senior Executive Team. Winners will be selected on Thursday, Dec. 1. Winners will be notified on Friday, Dec. 2.
On Nov. 14, Market Street at DC Ranch transforms into virtual gridiron featuring Monday Night Football, a pep rally competition, a video game truck and plenty of fun and food for the entire family. Events start at 5:30 p.m.
Hosted by Mark Tarbell and Beau MacMillan, the Third Annual Arizona Harvest Moon Feast takes places Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Desert Foothills outdoor venue in North Scottsdale. During the event, guests visit food stations manned by dozens of local chefs and sip on premium cocktails under the starry sky. Careers through Culinary Arts Program of Arizona (C-CAP AZ) students join these chefs to create custom culinary creations while the fundraiser supports C-CAP AZ and its programs, which help at-risk high schoolers enter the culinary arts industry.  Tickets are $150 per person.
Bluewater Grill hosts its “Holiday Stuffed Maine Lobster Feast” on Tuesday, Nov. 15. This classic family feast originated in Boston-area seafood restaurants and has since become a cherished New England holiday tradition. This very special meal features a whole Maine lobster stuffed with a special shrimp and buttery panko-crumb stuffing and served with choice of New England or Manhattan clam chowder, two sides, unlimited fresh sourdough bread and a Bluewater bib for $34.95. Paired with the feast will be two hand-picked Sauvignon Blancs, Oyster Bay from New Zealand, and a St. Supery from Napa Valley. Seatings start at 6:30 p.m.
SOL Cocina hosts a Fortaleza Tequila paired dinner on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. A Fortaleza Tequila expert will be in attendance at the dinner to talk about what dishes pair well with different tequilas. The four-course meal will include dishes like grilled sea bass tacos, arroz con leche and tequila. The complete dining experience is $125 per person and that includes food, drinks, tequila, tax and gratuity. Call 480.245.6708 for a reservation.
