Sept. 16: SumoMaya’s True Mexican Independence Day

Contrary to popular belief, Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16–not Cinco de Mayo. To commemorate this day, Scottsdale’s SumoMaya, along with AZFoothills and Casamigos Tequila (which you might know as the award-winning brand from George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Arizona’s own Mike Meldman), presents the first-annual True Mexican Independence Day.
On Sept. 16, from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., you’re invited to say so-long to summer with a Mexican Independence Day bash at the Valley’s hottest new restaurant. Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy the sounds of a mariachi band and, until 9 p.m., savor complimentary butler-passed hors d’oeuvres at the bar. Also at the bar, SumoMaya hosts an all-day social hour that spotlights specials like $5 Casamigos margaritas all day, $5 Casamigos Sumo-ritas and $7 reposados “burros.”
To kick the celebration into high gear, order up SumoMaya’s four-course True Mexican Independence Day menu. It will be available for $49 per person with a Casaamigo tequila pairing. Reservations are not required, but they are suggested.
First course:
Miso Lime Seabass ceviche
Paired with Casamigos Blanco Margarita
Second course:
Chinese style Chili-Crab Garlic noodles
Paired with Casamigos Reposado Tequila
Third course:
Pacifico marinated Carne Asada with Anejo marinated red onion
Or
Adobo marinated Mahi Mahi Veracruz with Casamigo Anejo
Paired with Casamigos Anejo Tequila
Fourth course:
Tres leches, a traditional cake
Guests also have the option to order off the traditional dinner menu. To get the party started early, pop in this weekend to experience SumoMaya’s fantastic new brunch menu. Try the likes of the green tea waffle with duck confit, the crispy pork belly benedict and much more.
