Green New American Vegetarian Tempe’s Green New American restaurant is 100 percent vegan-friendly that uses mostly fresh, organic ingredients and dive mock meats. Menu items include spicy buffalo wings with vegan cucumber ranch dressing and celery sticks; Jamaican-inspired jerk tofu salad; crab puffs with mock crab meat; flatbread pizzas; plenty of sandwiches and burgers with mock meats and amazing desserts, including vegan peanut butter chocolate bars. www.greenvegetarian.com.
Udupi Cafe Tempe’s Udupi Cafe not only satisfies those who eat vegan but those who adore Indian food. (While the entire menu is vegetarian, 80 percent of the Udupi Cafe menu is vegan.) The bill of fare include coconut or lemon rice, a selection of uthappam (Indian-style pancakes), divine Indian breads, can’t-miss curries and Rasmalai for dessert, which is homemade cottage cheese in a special condensed milk flavored with rose water and garnished with pistachio nuts. www.udupicafeaz.com.
Pita Jungle Pita Jungle, with several Valley locations, is the perfect place for vegetarians to bring their meat-eating friends. (The vegan chart on Pita Jungle’s Web site makes it easy for diners to determine which menu items are vegan and which are not.) Loving Hut USA With locations in both Glendale and Phoenix, it is easy for vegans to get an amazing meat-free meal. Featuring healthful vegan cuisine, Loving Hut offers recognizable menu items with a meat-free spin. Nourish Scottsdale’s Nourish restaurant is a must-try for anyone with a dietary need, including vegans. Nourish offers vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free, soy-free, nut-free and egg-free options and boasts a menu of comfort food with a healthy twist. The red, white and black quinoa salad, the sweet potato and avocado salad, the three bean chili, the eggplant parmesan and a variety of dessert and bakery items are all vegetarian favorites.
