Switzerland’s Gstaad Palace

Frequent travelers pick up on some pretty useful tips by learning from experience. One of my personal favorite tidbits is visiting ski resorts outside of the high season. Not only can tremendous, value-packed specials be found, but Alpine regions are also exceptional backdrops for a multitude of outdoor summer time activities.

The Bernese Alps are widely revered as a winter sports destination, but they’re a dream destination during summer as well. Walking and hiking trails, mountain biking and rock climbing, horseback riding, canoeing, river rafting, paragliding, and off-road driving and Jeep safaris are just some of the enticements nearby.

Located in the charming chalet village of Saanenland, Switzerland, Gstaad Palace is a sensational historic stay in the Bernese Alps with enticing summer packages.

The family-owned Palace, comprised of 104 guest rooms, opened in 1913 and has been a significant presence in the region ever since. And it’s not hard to see why the Swiss staple has succeeded for nearly a century—The Gstaad Palace seamlessly melds Swiss charm and hospitality with modern amenities for the discerning traveler.

Of particular note is the Palace’s Alpine Adventure Package. The 3-day Alpine Adventure Getaway includes: 2 nights in a Double Deluxe Room at Gstaad Palace, 1 night at the Walig Hut (a modernized hut that was once home to local farmers as a summer stay when shepherding cattle) with 3-course dinner included, Swiss breakfast buffet and dinner daily at Le Grand Restaurant, complimentary use of the Palace Spa, with indoor swimming pool, saunas, steam baths, outdoor pool with a jacuzzi, Olympic outdoor pool, and onsite tennis and squash courts.  The cost of the package is approx. $1,570 per person and is available June 17-September 13, 2012.

The Walig Hut (which constituted one night of accommodations in the packages) is pictured above and features views of the Alps, a kitchen, bedroom, solar powered electric lighting, running water, a traditional wood burning stove,  bathroom and more.

The resort’s Unforgettable Summer Days Package is also a great value, where guests can enjoy a two-night midweek stay in any single or double room category with a stunning view over the Swiss Alps. The package includes wine degustation and canapés with the Sommelier in the Palace wine cellar, relaxing hot stone massage of 50 minutes, per person, in the Palace Spa, a cooking lesson with the Chef, with your own culinary masterpiece and wine, use of Palace Spa with indoor swimming pool, saunas, steam baths, outdoor pool with Jacuzzi and Olympic-size outdoor pool. The rate per person is approximately $775 and the package can be enjoyed from June 17 to September 13.
