Schweitzer Mountain Resort has spent over a million dollars this summer and fall maintaining current infrastructure. Schweitzer is also spending capital on cutting a new F.I.S. homologated downhill course, new progression terrain park and a new sun deck outside of Taps Lounge.
Schweitzer’s new downhill course is located on Stella, crews widened the trail Shortcut to 30 meters to connect upper Cathedral Aisle with the lower section of Zip Down. “The new start allows racers to start on a steep pitch, allowing them to maintain a higher rate of speed suitable for downhill racing” said Jamie Landwehr, Schweitzer Alpine Racing Schools (SARS) head coach. “We’re hoping SARS Spur will allow Schweitzer to bring in higher caliber races” he added.
Schweitzer’s new terrain park, Southside Progression Park, will take the place of Starfish Terrain Park and will be located next to The Stomping Grounds Terrain Park where Crystal Run is. The new progression park will be larger in size, and allow for a greater number of features.
In the village, Schweitzer is constructing a new sun deck located outside Taps Lounge. The new deck will be 50’ by 28’. “This is something our guests have been asking for over the years” said Tom Chasse, Schweitzer’s President and CEO. “We’re committed to guest service, and excited to be able to answer their requests with a new outside deck.”
Schweitzer has also added a new groomer to their fleet, will roll out a new website this fall, is strengthening the wireless internet throughout the village, upgraded the electrical work on Musical Chairs, and more.
