A typical day in my life includes…

as a stylist and owner of a hair salon every day is different. Every head of hair and every client is special and unique. As the business owner I am always busy, 24/7 (the joys of ownership, right?!?) with marketing and planning for the future, HR, recruiting, training and coaching staff, looking after the numbers, etc. This on top of servicing clients 2 days a week. But because of the many hats I wear I love what I do. I wouldn’t have it any other way, otherwise I’d get bored. On a personal level I’m a news junkie, daily checking the web, reading the newspaper (yes, real newsprint) front to back, working out at the Village four times a week, hiking, and loving our local restaurant scene.

I was born…

at Good Sam in Phoenix and raised in Scottsdale. After living in San Francisco and Washington DC and working and traveling around the world I am happy to be back home.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

the light, the sunrise and sunsets are amazing! There is a softness and diffused quality to the light. All that dust is good for something!

I’m listening to…

Kascade and Deadmau5, with the preview of their latest collaboration I have been going into the vaults and listening to some of their older tunes.

My family…

is intense!

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

my wife’s father who passed away at the young age of 44 when she was only 18 before I ever met her. It would be nice for him to know that his daughter is loved.

One thing I cannot live without…

my wife Beate.

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

an architect. The preliminary schooling I did has helped me as a hairdresser; understanding shape, balance and the unique qualities of different materials.

I’m inspired by…

my staff.

The one person who motivates me is…

myself. I have a fear of failure that drives me. I can always do better, that eternal strive for perfection…a blessing and a curse.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

more understanding and less judging, more listening and less talking, more thinking and less reacting, more compassion and less hate.

The perfect day would be…

spent enjoying nature, reading the NY Times, getting a massage, shopping, an afternoon nap, great wine and dinner with friends.

My first job was…

as a busboy at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour.

My favorite escape…

is downhill skiing. It is relaxing and peaceful yet exhilarating at the same time. The scenery is spectacular, the air is pure and clean and you have to be very focused. You can’t be worried or be thinking about anything else just you and the mountain.

My life…

is great! I love what I do.

I’m currently working on…

a new high tech project for our salon. We are beta testing a client’s concept that will change the salon experience and potentially the client experience in other industries as well.

Always…

follow your heart. Do what you love and love what you do.

Never…

settle for less than your absolute best effort.

Favorite Quote…

“Good is the enemy of great.” – Jim Collins

Biggest Dream…

to live two to three months of each year in Europe in a different city each month.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

when you do an update on your electronic device and have to relearn everything all over again and once you have it down…another update!?!
