Maya Thompson: The Ultimate Mother

We began 17 sentences that each person finished in their own words. Here’s what this strong, determined mother, Maya Thomson, had to say about life after losing a child to Cancer.

Name: Maya Thompson
Age: The youngest 34 year old alive
Title: Wife, Mama, Founder of The Ronan Thompson Foundation, Author of Rockstar Ronan
Married/Single: Married
Kids: 3
Live: Phoenix, AZ

I was born…

a rebel with a heart of gold.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

winter nights and blazing hot summer days. Hiking up Camelback Mountain. The peacefulness of Sedona.

I’m listening to…

everything. I am a music junkie. Current favs are Lana Del Ray, Foster the People, and always Neil Young.

My family…

is my everything. I wouldn’t be here, if it weren’t for them.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

My son, Ronan(3), who passed away from Childhood Cancer.

One thing I cannot live without…

is the one thing I am living without, my son, Ronan. It’s like living without air to breathe but somehow I continue to fight on, for him and all the other kids who deserve better.

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a writer.

I’m inspired by…

the people of the world who are not comfortable, who don’t take no for an answer, who give back and do good things for the right reasons.

The one person who motivates me is…

Ronan. Always Ronan.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

the lack of awareness and funding that childhood cancer receives. Childhood Cancer is the number one disease killer of children. It should be at the top of our priority list.

The perfect day would be…

my old life. It was so simple and perfect. We were all healthy and together. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

My first job was…

babysitting. I have always loved kids.

My favorite escape…

New York City. My favorite place on earth.

My life…

is so different from what it used to be. Life after losing a child, is never the same. I am doing the best I can, one day at a time. I refuse to give up until Childhood Cancer gets the attention it deserves.

I’m currently working on…

The Gold Party for The Ronan Thompson Foundation, September 29th, 2012 at The W Hotel in Scottsdale, AZ. Buy tickets and tell all your friends! It’s going to be an amazing night for a really special cause.

Always…

follow your heart, love hard, break rules, knock down doors, be thankful, trust your instincts, question everything, inspire others, help others, never give up, and be the best version of yourself, that you can possibly be.

Never…

take the things you have for granted. Especially your health and loved ones.

  1. So proud of the community you spear head. Fierce, unsatisfied, ready to fight parents who’s child is their #1 priority. Every day parents we must actively do something to protect our children from Cancer.
Any age, any demographic, every nation.

The #1 killer of children via disease, we have to fight for our kids, we are all they have!
