This past weekend, Chris Lambton from HGTV show’s “Going Yard” and “Yard Crashers” was here in Arizona for the Maricopa County Home and Garden Show.  We were lucky enough to talk to him to find out some helpful tips for the yard and a little more about this landscaping star.

AFM: How did you get started in this business?

Chris Lambton: I grew up landscaping, and my dad started a company.  My brothers and I have always worked with him and helped out.  My brothers and I run the company now, and my dad even still helps out.  Landscaping has always been in my blood.

AFM: What has your favorite project been?

CL: The best one I’ve done is this year has been The Blog Cabin Giveaway home in Idaho. The house was in a great location that overlooked the lake.  We really went above and beyond with this project.  We added some amazing features to the yard including three fire pits and a waterfall.

AFM: What is the easiest thing a homeowner can do to add value to their yard?

CL: My favorite tip to give homeowners is to edge out the beds and also use mulch.  Cutting down on weeds makes the house look so much cleaner and complete.  It’s an inexpensive solution and it can really set your yard apart from others.  It’s also easy and can be completed quickly without any professional help.

AFM: What have you enjoyed most about “Yard Crashers”?

CL: I love getting to walk around the store and talk to random people. When else could you get this opportunity? When I have the camera crew with me it is an open invitation to talk to anyone. I love getting people’s opinions, and it’s so fun seeing people’s reactions.

AFM: What was your most extreme makeover on a lawn like?

CL: This one yard we worked on looked like a vacant lot. It was bizarre because the family had kids and dogs but the outside was such a mess.  I had to put gloves on for this one because I was afraid of Tetanus. We did a total 180 on the yard though and it looked great.  We had to make a lot of trips to the dump to clear this one out.

AFM: What is your favorite part about working with your wife?

CL: I love getting to travel with my wife all the time. We work extremely well together and play off each other easily and effortlessly. We have both aspects covered. I’m great at the construction aspect and her specialty is the beauty.  I’m not great with small details like pillows and blankets, but Peyton is an expert with the finishing touches. Don’t ask me about that kind of stuff; I don’t even know what side the fork goes on!

AFM: Where can we find you when you’re not working on a yard?

CL: When I’m not working, you can usually find me at the beach.  I grew up in Cape Cod and definitely consider myself a total beach bum.  I love to swim and make sure to keep up with it. Last year I swam 10 months out of the 12! Some months get really cold but usually it doesn’t stop me. I also love bringing my wife, Peyton and dog and have a nice relaxing day at the beach.
