Spring is in the air. And it’s putting me in a major spring cleaning mood. Yes, that includes my house and digestive tract… but also my hair! You know all that gunk you put in your hair – the mouse, the spray, the gel, the cream – all that styling “stuff” builds up on your hair and scalp, zapping its shine and can even cause the dreaded “bad hair day.” Time to detox! The aim of detoxing is to de-gunk your locks to restore luster. I’ve been experimenting with a bunch of detox shampoos and loving the result: My hair is shinier, more manageable and the color more vivid. Here are my faves….

Detox for color-treated hair….
John Masters Organics Herbal Cider Hair Clarifier & Color Sealer, $17
I’ve long been a fan of John Masters Organics (all their products), but this is definitely one of my faves. Apple cider vinegar removes product buildup, while lemon oil and rosemary leave my hair VERY happy.

Detox for fine hair…
Davines Solu Shampoo (price varies)
A couple years ago, a stylist used Davines on my hair and it was love at first rinse. This lightweight formula will leave your locks light and luscious, plus it contains strengthening barley extract and sweet almond protein.

Detox your scalp…
Davines Detoxifying Scrub Shampoo (price varies)
Dead skin cells can buildup around follicles leaving hair dull. Massage this potion into your scalp for 5ish minutes and the artichoke phytoceuticals (fancy name for antioxidant-packed scrubbing beads) will work their magic. It doesn’t hurt that it smells like a spa in a bottle.

Detox splurge…
Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Clarifying Shampoo, $32
A total celeb fave, this clarifying formula may have a heavy price tag, but it delivers more than the super stylish packaging. Packed with superstar botanicals that deep clean and nourish, the ingredient list reads like a health food menu: Black current, soy yogurt, yerba mate, acai berry, hibiscus, mangosteen, oolong tea. My hair loves it! (bonus: free of sulfates, parabens and gluten)

Detox for everyday…
Beecology Honey & Botanical Sulfate-Free Shampoo, $13
This is a new beauty brand on my radar that revolves around bees – yes, nourishing ingredients like honey and beeswax, but they also took a cue from bees themselves to create a socially- and environmentally-conscious company (bees work for the good of the whole hive). This shampoo is sulfate- and paraben-free, yet it still has a lather you’ll love, plus plenty of nourishing botanicals and ingredients (honey, chamomile, orange, aloe…).
