SUPERDRINKS for better health

Superfoods get all the play, yet no one ever talks about SUPERdrinks. I blame sugar-loaded juices and whip cream-topped coffee concoctions… they’ve given all drinks a bad rap, yet there are lots of health-promoting sips that make it more than okay to drink your calories. Try these smart sips…

Coconut water: Sit down sugary sports drinks, there’s a new all-natural hydrator in town. Made from the juice of young, green coconuts, cup for cup coconut water has about a teaspoon less sugar than your typical sports drink ― and up to 15 times as much potassium. Flavored varieties come with extra sugar. Jazz up the original with strawberry or cucumber slices for extra va-va-voom without the calories.

White tea: All the health benefits (and more!) of green tea, without the bitter bite. The least processed of green, oolong and black, mild-tasting white tea contains the highest concentration of catechins, antioxidants linked to improved heart health, boosted immunity and cancer protection.

Almond milk (unsweetened): Skim milk might be fat free, but this nutty-tasting, lactose-free milk has less than half the calories of moo juice plus 50% of your recommended daily value of vitamin E, a free radical fighter and skin protector. And no sugar! Bonus: Many brands are fortified with calcium and vitamin D.

Kefir: Kefir is packed with probiotics, beneficial bugs that do good in your gut. They boost immunity, aid in nutrient absorption and help keep your weight in check. And the gut-friendly fermented beverage has a whopping 11 grams of muscle-building protein per cup.
