Meet Alison Johnson. She’s the Best of Our Valley winner for “Most Fashionable Over 30- Women.” It’s no wonder she’s so fashionable - she went to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles for college. While in school she was a stylist for Ralph Lauren on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. She moved back to Arizona after her father was diagnosed with cancer. He unfortunately lost the battle and passed away, which led Alison to her job with the American Cancer Society. Keep up the miracle work Alison!
Arizona Foothills Magazine: Where are you from?
Alison Johnson: I am from Fort Dodge, Iowa.
AFM: How long have you lived in Phoenix?
AJ: I have lived in Phoenix since I was 4, with the exception of my college years. I loved my time and experiences in L.A., but decided to move back home to Arizona when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. When I got back to Scottsdale, I started a career with Neiman Marcus. I began on the sales floor and worked my way up with the company fast. First I was promoted to the Coordinator of Fine Apparel/Couture and then to Public Relations. I worked for the company for 4 years and got to plan, and be a part of, a lot of amazing events - I loved it! Shortly after losing my dad to cancer, I decided to go to work for the American Cancer Society. I truly love my job and feel like I am making a difference every day!
AFM: What is your profession?
AJ: I am the Director of Distinguished Events, American Cancer Society.
AFM: How long have you been in this career?
AJ: I have lived here for 3 and a half years.
AFM: Why is it your passion?
AJ: This job is my passion because I lost my dad to cancer and never wants anyone else to go through something so heart breaking. I am very proud to be a part of the American Cancer Society’s mission to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. If I can raise enough money so that one person gets one more birthday with their dad, I will consider my career a success.
AFM: Why do you think you won Most Fashionable?
AJ: I think I won most fashionable because the only thing stronger than my passion for fashion, is the support of my family and friends.
AFM: How did you get your votes?
The three F’s: Family, Friends and Facebook.
AFM: What is your must have item when it comes to your wardrobe?
AJ: Anything that sparkles!
AFM: Do you have pets?
AJ: Yes, Dolce! She is a 6 pound Yorkie/Maltese Mix – She’s my BEST accessory and BEST friend!
AFM: What do you like to do for fun?
AJ: I love crafting, baking and spending time with the loves of my life: my husband Johnny and our dog, Dolce. I have recently found myself on a confection kick too!
AFM: Do you have any hidden talents?
AJ: I love to bling things out.
