Just in time for Valentine’s Day, AFM gushes over these six true love stories. Think love is just a fairy-tale shown in Disney movies? Or that Mr. Right is short for Mr. Right Now? These couples put those myths to rest by sharing tales of their real-life happily ever afters. Get to know these couples, find out what it takes to keep that love burning strong, and be prepared to fall in love with them just like we did.

Jake DeJarnett and Megan Cuaderno

Jake and Megan aren’t your average high school sweethearts. Megan was diagnosed at the age of two with spinal muscular atrophy that bound her to a wheel chair. They met about five ago during their sophomore year at Boulder Creek high school. While they had similar friends, dating wasn’t the first thing that came to mind. They started off as friends where their love started to grow stronger and stronger for each other. Not long after, the two fell head over heels for each other and have been inseparable ever since.

Was it love at first sight?

Jake: Not at first sight, but we fell deeply in love shortly after we established our relationship.

Megan:  He was cute, but his sense of humor is what really caught me.

How long have you been together/married?

Jake: We have been together since we were 16 years old.  So over 5 years now.

What do you love most about your partner?

Jake: She is the sweetest thing. I have had her saved in my phone from the beginning as 'Little Piece Of Heaven' and that's what she is to me.  When I look at her, I don't see a chair, I see her for who she really is.  A beautiful, talented, funny, and outgoing woman.

Megan: He's just great, I know he would do anything for me!  And that's all I can ask for.  I have been cared for all my life by my family and friends, and when Jake asked me to marry him on May 7th 2010, I knew he would care and protect me like no one else ever could.  Now I can confidently put my trust in him for the rest of my life!

What do you think is the success to your relationship?

Jake: Megan was diagnosed at the age of two with spinal muscular atrophy and has been in an electric wheel chair since the age of four.  Even though she has limitations in life, our love for each other isn't affected by any means.  We are the best of friends who put each other’s needs first, which we believe is the success to our relationship. From the outside people may wonder how this relationship might work, but as our closest friends and family could tell you, we truly love each other and are the best of friends.

What does your ideal date night entail?

Jake: Going out to sushi together, just relaxing and enjoying each other.  Then going home and watching a good movie and laughing together.

What is your song?

Jake: Jack Johnson's - Better Together. We feel that it captures our relationship, relaxed and in love.
