Located next to the OdySea Aquarium and Butterfly Wonderland on the 101 in Scottsdale, Dolphinaris brings an interactive dolphin experience for all ages. While at Dolphinaris, participants can interact with eight bottlenose dolphins and learn more about the species and conservation efforts to help protect the ocean and the marine life.
The Design
Walk into the bay area and you will notice the standout architecture. Dolphinaris won the Synergy Award from the Society of American Registered Architects in 2016. The award is presented to an individual or business which has done an outstanding service to the architectural profession. The layout is designed with both indoor and outdoor pools to provide protection to the dolphins if inclement weather were to occur.
The Beach Club
For $15 per person, guests can enjoy access into the Beach Club Area which includes a full-service bar and cafe, cabanas, hot tubs and a swimming pool. Guests can view the dolphins through the wall of glass in the pool while they swim. The beach club area may also be reserved for parties and corporate events.
Food and Wellness Checkups
The dolphins are fed herring, capelin and squid. All of the dolphin’s fish food is inspected and washed every morning before they are fed throughout the day. The trainers work with the veterinarian to decide how much food is best for the each individual dolphin. The on-site veterinarian also takes routine blood samples from the dolphins to make sure they are in good health. The veterinarian can look at the blood samples in her office to determine the state of the animal.
Water Standards
Part of what makes Dolphinaris unique is the engineering. The facility has a high-tech water filtration and ozone purification which cleans the water and removes dust and impurities. In addition, the water is cooled in the summer and warmed in the winter, with the water temperature ranging from 75 degrees to 80 degrees.
Conservation
Dolphinaris is brought to Scottsdale by a company called Ventura Entertainment, which has dolphin interaction programs in Mexico with more than 20 years of experience training dolphins. In addition, the company also conducts research and conservation efforts in the ocean through their BLU organization. In Dolphinaris, there is a special display with information on the world and its oceans. Particularly, the display highlights the health of the oceans over different parts of the world and how important it is for humans to make conscious choices about their impact on the environment. Everyone who comes to Dolphinaris leaves with a brochure on how they can make a difference with marine life.
Dolphin Experiences
For those who want to get up close to the dolphins, there are different experiences to choose from including the Dolphin Land Experience, Dolphin Swim Experience, Deluxe Dolphin Swim Experience and the Dolphin Trainer experience. There will also be a summer camp for kids in grades seven through 12.
