Arizona Costume Institute Nouveau Hosts “New York Dream, 1953” Fashion Event

 

Fundraiser to Celebrate Author Elizabeth Winder’s “Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York 1953.” Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Phoenix Art Museum. Tickets are $30.

 

Visit www.phoenixart.orgArizona Costume Institute (ACI) Nouveau is hosting its fourth annual fundraiser as a 1950s-themed fashion event at Phoenix Art Museum that will feature well-known author Elizabeth Winder’s latest literary gem, Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York 1953.

Close to 300 guests are expected to attend and listen to Winder discuss famous American poet and author, Sylvia Plath and her time as a guest editor in 1953 at Mademoiselle magazine. Winder will share her insights into Plath’s experiences in the New York fashion scene and receive sined copies of her book that will be available for purchase.

Following the lecture, enjoy light bites, cocktails, beats by DJ Kim E-Fresh, Dior makeovers by the Saks Fifth Avenue cosmetics team and gift bags by sponsors Saks Fifth Avenue and Kendra Scott Jewelry.

Western-Themed Kick-off Party Planned at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle

“The UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle transforms its amphitheater into a country festival for all ages on Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. as it hosts a Western-themed event in anticipation of the upcoming Scottsdale Showdown.

The family-friendly kick-off event will include an authentic chuck wagon and features an appearance by Tuff Hedeman, Championship CBR Bull Rider ”The Dina Preston Band,” winner of the 2012 Gig Master Award, will entertain guests with a mix of Country and Southern Rock music.  Concessions will be available including BBQ, and a variety of other food and beverages.  All venues at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle (including bowling, arcade, laser tag, restaurants, lounge and movies) will be open as usual for business during this event.

W Scottsdale will host a Romance in Rio Birthday Celebration

W Scottsdale will host a Romance in Rio birthday celebration on Friday, Oct. 11. The festive party will transport revelers into the over-the-top world of exotic Rio de Janeiro, complete with colorful decorations, live performances and other surprise attractions.

The Romance in Rio event is free and open to adults 21 and over. Doors open at 8 p.m.

 

W Scottsdale will hold an Instagram photo contest during the party for the chance to win tickets to the hotel’s New Year’s Eve bash. Guests will be encouraged to upload photos of themselves at the event to Instagram with the hashtag #wbirthday and @wscottsdale for the chance to win tickets to the hotel’s New Year’s Eve party, plus accommodations.

 

Sushi Roku is also rolling out special deals for the W Scottsdale birthday celebration. The restaurant will offer 50% off dinner reservations on October 7 – 10 p.m., plus Roku Fusion cocktails available for just $5.

Bob’s 2nd Annual Biker Blast

Joining the ranks of the GoDaddy holiday party, but open to the general public, the three-day event hosted by Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale, Go AZ Motorcycles and spirited Valley entrepreneur and philanthropist Bob Parsons, is a chance for bikers, wanna-be bikers, bike enthusiasts and music lovers to have a “blast” and help make a difference.

The second annual event will be held Oct. 11-13, 2013 and will feature headline performances by blues rock legend Grand Funk Railroad and country music star Gary Allan.

Tour de Scottsdale 

From tourdescottsdale.net, “The tenth annual Tour de Scottsdale, presented by Lexu, is Sunday, October 13, 2013. The event kicks off at Market Street in DC Ranch, which is located near the southeast corner of Pima Road and Thompson Peak Parkway in Scottsdale. The event features a 70-mile and 30-mile citizen’s ride.

The event beneficiary is the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, a nonprofit conservation organization in Scottsdale that protects and promotes the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The Tour de Scottsdale event is capped at 2,000 cyclists soregister now!
