Dogs give unconditional love and support for their owners. It is because of the impact that dogs have on human lives that Milk-Bone wanted to recognize dogs and what they do for the owners in their lives.

Mauricio Guitron from Milk-Bone says, “At Milk-Bone, we believe all dogs do so much for us every single day, from cheering us up when we’re down, to giving us endless love and attention and always being the ones we can rely on.” The company specifically wanted to focus on dogs that make a difference in their owner’s lives and in their community.

After a search across the United States to find the best service dogs, Milk-Bone partnered with Canine Assistants, a program dedicated to training service dogs and placing them in homes to help their owners. The nonprofit organization operates to train dogs to help those who have seizure conditions, physical disabilities and other special needs.

Bliss, a mix of a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever, won an award and was recognized as an honoree in the 2017 Milk-Bone 15 Dogs Who Changed the World campaign.

A loyal and trustworthy companion and a Scottsdale local, Bliss assists her owner Claudia by picking things up for her, staying by her side and offering her comfort. Claudia says, “One time I had a nightmare, and she was cuddling with me in bed. I woke up, and she had her head on my stomach.” Bliss can also open a door to let herself out. In addition, she is also trained to retrieve cell phones in case of emergencies and she helps keep Claudia safe.

As a “top-dog” graduate of the Canine Assistants program, Bliss learned a high set of skills allowing her to provide the best service to her owner. The program has trained several “top-dog” graduates who have received recognition from the Milk-Bone campaign.

After partnering with Milk-Bone, Canine Assistants has been able to help several individuals and their families by connecting them with service dogs. Guitron says, “With the support of Milk-Bone, Canine Assistants has placed more than 2,000 hero dogs with individuals across the United States.”
