With the current ability to press a simple button and have an Uber car on its way to your current location, one would think that the ability to text 911 would have come long ago.  

The need to be able to text a 911 call center has been made more prevalent over the past few years.  The ability to text 911 has been made available today.  Subscribers of AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint will now have the ability to have emergency texts routed to nearby call centers.  All one has to do is text 911 by texting to Text-to-911.

It is still up to the individual 911 call centers to decide if and when they will start accepting 911 emergency texts, however this is one step closer to more rapidly received emergency responses, along with an answer for those who are in an emergency situation where calling is not an option.  Perhaps this is a solution to have help on the scene more promptly?
