Like many youngsters, this summer, Valley brothers Ethan and Reid will be hitting the open road. However, the brothers are traveling cross country on bike to raise funds for Phoenix Children's Hospital. At age three, Ethan was diagnosed with a rare blood disease, Essential thrombocytosis; he was diagnosed at PCH and thanks to continuing care from the hospital, he hasn't suffered any major issues due to the disease.

However, as a junior in high school, Ethan suffered a grand mal seizure, resulting in a deep coma. He was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis. Again, thanks to the care from PCH, Ethan has recovered and is now a thriving Biomedical Science student as Northern Arizona University.

To show his thanks and support for PCH, Ethan, along with his brother Reid, is embarking on a 4,233-mile bike ride across the country to raise funds for the hospital. The ride is self-supported; they will be carrying all the gear and supplies themselves. The tour will wrap in August.

Their goal is to raise $10 per mile of riding for PCH ($42,330). To donate to the cause, visit www.pchpedalwithpurpose.com.
