The first Friday of each month, Arizona Science Center opens its doors to the 18+ from 5:30-9 p.m. All four floors of hands-on science are FREE as is a New Times ‘Best of Phoenix’ award-winning lecture series (seating is first-come, first-served)! Special ticketed events, IMAX® films or Dorrance Planetarium presentations are available for an additional cost and we always roll out the cash bar and feature a variety of local DJs.


Educators earn one hour of professional development for each lecture attended.



The Science of Being Fit Minded
September 6, 2013, 5:30-9 p.m.

  • 5:30 p.m. Doors open.
  • 7 p.m. Lecture: "The Science of Being Fit Minded" This is FREE and seating is first-come, first-served.
  • Is a lack of physical activity affecting your health? Jennifer Huberty, PhD, will review the current status of physical activity behaviors in Americam adults and how a lack of activity could be impacting our health. She will also discuss the problem with using weight loss as a strategy to motivate individuals to modify their physical activity behaviors and why this may be an unsuccessful approach. She will suggest innovative strategies to help individuals adopt and maintain physical activity behaviors for a lifetime. Jennifer Hubery, PhD is an Associate professor at Arizona State University in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion, Exercise and Wellness program.

Arizona Science Center is located in downtown Phoenix in the Heritage and Science Park on the northwest corner of 7th Street and Washington Street.

The Center is just a few blocks from the 3rd Street and Washington light rail stop.
