On December 1, the first annual Amazing Raise, a fund-raising walk will benefit families staying at the original House at 501 E. Roanoke and the House at 1980 E. Cambridge on the campus of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH).
Walkers participating in The Amazing Raise will walk the 1.9 miles from the House at PCH to the Roanoke House – and back again if they’d like – to raise funds to ensure that no family is ever turned away because they can’t afford the $15 nightly fee. The average cost of caring for one family for one day is $59.
Walkers can register for $15 online at www.amazingrace.kintera.org. Participants can choose to walk as individuals, join a team or start their own and are asked to raise a minimum of $59 either through personal donations or pledges. Individuals and teams can set any dollar-amount goal above $59.
Anyone raising $59 will receive a t-shirt. Water, sunscreen, refreshments and entertainment will be provided along the route from the Cambridge Street House west on Cambridge, north on 16th St. to Thomas Road and then west on Thomas Road to 5th Street where walkers will go south directly into the parking lot at 501 E. Roanoke.
The event begins with registration and breakfast at 7:30 a.m., Dec. 1 at 1980 E. Cambridge. The walk starts at 8:30 a.m. and the celebrations follow the end of the walk.
