Chandler to Host Oktoberfest 2011 on September 24

Fourth annual festival in Historic Downtown Chandler will feature German craft beer, spectacular Bavarian food and a special appearance by platinum-selling rock band Lit

CHANDLER, Ariz. — August 9, 2011 — Fans of polka music, German food and craft beer will don their lederhosen and dirndls and gather in Historic Downtown Chandler on Saturday, September 24, to celebrate Oktoberfest 2011. Polkas, bratwursts, brews, and oompah-pahs will be plentiful as Chandler does its best impersonation of Munich, Germany. Thousands of Oktoberfest revelers will gather in AJ Chandler Park West, adjacent to SanTan Brewing Company (8 S. San Marcos Place, between Arizona Ave. and Buffalo St.) beginning at 2 pm and party until 10 pm.

First celebrated in 1810, Oktoberfest is a dazzling festival held each year in Munich. Participants enjoy Bavarian brew and feast on traditional German dishes. Many cities around the globe, including Chandler, hold their own Oktoberfest celebrations similar to the German event.

Leading the entertainment lineup is platinum-selling rock band Lit. Led by brothers A. Jay and Jeremy Popoff, Lit is best known for their chart-topping songs “My Own Worst Enemy” and “Miserable.” Lit has been recognized as one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the last decade and they’re planning to rock the house at Oktoberfest — Bavarian style! In addition to Lit, polka and German musical performers will offer lively, traditional Oktoberfest entertainment.

A Bavarian-style Biergartens will showcase a spectacular assortment of fine craft beers (available for purchase by adults 21 and over) provided by local breweries including SanTan Brewing Company, Papago Brewing Company, Sonoran Brewing Company and Grand Canyon Brewing Company. Von Hanson Meats of Chandler will unveil a delicious limited-edition SanTan Oktoberfest bratwurst, a signature-style bratwurst prepared with SanTan’s Epicenter beer.

Chandler’s family-friendly Oktoberfest has plenty to offer everyone including beer games, beer pong tournament, bratwurst-eating contest and keg stacking. Kids have plenty of activities and games to choose from, including bounce houses, tricycle races and bag toss.

Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased at SanTan Brewing Company or online at santanoktoberfest.com. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Downtown Chandler Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity.
