U.S. Open Fashion

Golf and fashion have gone hand in hand since the sport first appeared on grassy Scottish dunes centuries ago. Every golfer knows when you look good and feel confident and comfortable with your appearance it becomes one less element clouding your strategy on the course. Hence the age-old adage—“It doesn’t matter how you play as long as you look good doing it.”
For Tour players, fashion consciousness is even more imperative since millions of viewers on network TV and thousands of patrons filling the galleries will see their style impressions. We’ve all come to love Ian Poulter’s vibrant trousers or Camillo Villegas’s contemporary hems. In many cases, players have established a recognition or fan base due to their unique styles. Who is the guy in the pink pants? Is Anthony Kim the one who wears the huge belt buckles? Payne Stewart, of course, cannot be excluded from any form of writing concerning golf fashion. Stewart revolutionized golf style with his homage to the classics and will be eternally remembered for his plaid plus fours and coordinated caps.
The U.S. Open is a mere 10 days away and as a Major golf exhibition, loads of golf fans will be tuned in to watch play unfold and in turn also be observing player’s clothing selections.
I just got a hold of the attire schedule at the U.S. Open for two Tour pros who represent Taylormade/Adidas Golf and their recently acquired Ashworth Golf division. Sergio Garcia (No.4 on the Official World Golf Rankings) and Sean O’Hair (No.13 on the OWGR) are well-known Taylormade-sponsored players who embody the athletic, sporty-chic designs of Adidas Golf and the timeless look of Ashworth, respectively.
The following is what Sergio will be wearing during the tournament week. A darker composition of hues punctuated by the all-black Sunday get up that he is quickly making a tournament staple.

Sean O’Hair’s week in fashion will be from Ashworth, which was recently acquired by Taylormade/Adidas golf. O’Hair is known for loose fitting apparel with traditional lines that accentuate his slender frame. In contrast to Garcia’s darker tones, O’Hair’s clothing is characterized by khaki trousers and neutral-toned tops.

Recreational golfers can get inspiration for their own on-course styles from the Tour pros. Deciding if your style is more athletic or traditional is a good place to start and from there, the possibilities are endless.
To learn more about these and other designs or to find your own golf style, a good place to begin is at www.adidasgolf.com or www.ashworthinc.com.
