Let me tell you all about the gorgeous spa at the Grand Velas All Suites & Spa resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. It’s an incredible 16,000-sq.-ft. facility, rivaling the best resort spas I have tried in the United States. There are 20 large treatment rooms, and the relaxation facilities are second to none. While of course your spa treatments aren’t included in the resort’s all-inclusive status, you really should treat yourself to a treatment, and spend the day lounging at the spa. It’s so worth it.

I signed up for the 80-minute Exotic Seashell massage, which is like a hot stone massage, but using smooth, warm seashells instead. My appointment was at 11am, but I arrived an hour early to take part in the guided Hydrotherapy Ritual. The ritual leads guests through the aquatic area in the spa, experiencing a hydrotherapy circuit, featuring a cool shower, sauna, steam room, jaccuzzi tub, hydroreflexology pool, cool plunge, and warm plunge, ending off with a glass of cool chlorophyll water or warm tea. The spa attendants lead me to a lounger, where I laid down and enjoyed myself as they places cold cucumber slices over my eyes. What luxury. By the time you are done this ritual, you are fully relaxed and in spa mode.

When it was time for my treatment, I was guided through the peaceful treatment room area to my own large room, where soft spa music was playing. The treatment began off the massage table with a relaxing foot scrub and wash ritual. Then, once the massage began, I was at total ease. The spa therapist was attentive and very good at her job. The 80 minutes went by quicker than I could have imagined – I even checked the clock to see what the time was and sure enough, 80 minutes had gone, just like that.

Now that my body felt like jelly, I decided to stick around the spa and laze away in the lounge chairs. I spent the next hour sipping tea and reading magazine – it was like a vacation from my vacation. When it was time to head back out to the sunshine and beach, I showered off and checked out of the spa, feeling good as new.

Be sure to make reservations for your spa treatment. I also heard that the couples massage is a real treat if you are looking for a nice way to spend the day with your sweetheart.
