Despite its incredible mining town vibe and delicious dining options (I was able to try Wahso on Main Street and Mariposa at Deer Valley), people mainly come here to ski. At least in the winter, as I am told that summer is truly a divine season in Park City.
In any case, I was here to ski, and ski I did.

On Saturday I went to Deer Valley, which someone referred to as the “caviar of skiing,” due to its traditional ski-only policy (no snowboarding allowed) and its high-end touches like the opulent lunchtime skiers buffet at the Stein Erikson lodge.
To see the mountain properly I was paired up with Heidi Voelker, a three-time Olympic skier and now the ambassador of Deer Valley. (Fun fact: She is pictured on the new Utah license plate.) I have never skied with an Olympic skier, so spent most of my morning chasing after her as she flew down the slopes at top speed. I guess once a competitor, always a competitor. The downfall of keeping up to her championship speed was that all the stunning trees and homes we passed were a blur, but the upside was that we got a lot of runs in. Deer Valley is certainly the place you want to go for top-notch ski resort amenities and conditions.

Come Sunday, my legs were done with the black diamonds, but ready for more blue action. I headed to The Canyons, which is the fourth largest ski resort in the United States. Luckily, my guide there knew how to get the most out of a morning on the hill. She took me directly over the Dreamcatcher area to the far left of the base. We were able to make the first tracks on numerous nicely groomed runs since there wasn’t another soul in sight for the first hour of our day. I love resorts that are spread out wide and allow for a full day of skiing without the crowds. Perfect for skiers of all levels, you can’t get bored here.

On Monday I awoke to a snow storm. To some skiers, this would have been paradise, but I prefer sunny day skiing. Nevertheless I headed to Park City Ski resort for day three on the slopes. Thank goodness I had a guide this morning, or I may not have lived to tell, since the visibility at the top of the mountain was just a few feet. But once through that momentary white out, I was treated to “Utah Champagne,” as in the freshest, lightest powder ever. I may not have got to see the stunning mountain views here, but I did get to experience the incredible conditions that Utah and Park City is known for. I would also say that Park City resort is a great place for families, since they accommodate to all levels of skiers. The chair lift right into town is also a neat feature.
