The newest design by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones opened for member and VIP play a few weeks ago and was unabashedly called the best layout in Utah by those lucky enough to make the inaugural rounds. The course at Victory Ranch Club, just 17 miles east of Park City, Utah, spans 7,600 yards within the Victory Ranch luxury community, known for its world class fly fishing and expansive mountain views.

The course has been fashioned to blend seamlessly within the diverse topography and dramatic view corridors of the 5,600-acre community. Unique among residential golf communities, Victory Ranch Club features a “core” golf course design, in which groups of holes are situated adjacent to one another, as opposed to being surrounded by housing. This refreshing design approach enhances the golf experience, while providing panoramic views from the elevated home sites adjacent to the core’s perimeter. The course rises to the high plateaus of Flat Top Peak where, at 7,000 feet altitude, golfers tee off with 20‐mile views of the Uinta Mountains, Deer Valley Ski Area and Jordanelle Reservoir.

Playing to a par of 72, the bent grass layout incorporates an average of seven tee boxes per hole to maximize course set-up flexibility, thereby accommodating a wide range of player ability. For example, the par three 17th hole, features an unusual 14 tee boxes that serve to maximize yardage and angle of play diversity. A more experienced golfer can take a challenging shot across native rock formations, while a less skilled player can take an easier approach around the rim of the rock formation.

“The Victory Ranch Golf Course is designed to appeal – both strategically and aesthetically – to players of all abilities,” Jones said. “We worked hard to visually define each shot and maximize the diversity of the holes. A blend of hazards, including some intended to save a slightly errant shot from a severe penalty, were carefully located and sculpted.”
