Golf is a great way to form bonds. There is no other sport where you can spend nearly half a day cruising around a sports venue while getting to know your playing partners. I have met and gotten to know so many interesting people and learn about their backgrounds and lives over the course of 18 holes. And many connections I made on the course years ago still prompt “just catching up” emails and conversations with people from all over the globe.

However, my favorite golfsome (because sometimes it is more than a foursome including walk-a-longs) is my family. Having been blessed with siblings who also love the game, we’re never shy of players to fill a foursome. Learning to play the game, maneuver the course and even compete with your golfing family can make the game even more enjoyable event.

Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators, is reaching out to families all over the world and promoting “togetherness in golf.”  Camelback Golf Club at 7847 N. Mockingbird Lane, Scottsdale, AZ., recently announced that it will be hosting its second annual Family Golf Festival on Sunday, June 28.

The Marriott International Family Golf Festival, which encourages parents and children to learn and play the game together, invites families to Camelback Golf Club for an afternoon of free golf activities and instruction, including short game and full swing clinics. Participants will be able to enter into a raffle for a chance to win a number of great prizes including a 1-hour complimentary golf lesson, Camelback logoed golf gear and more. Camelback will also have a beverage cart available, and the Golf Grille will be serving food to purchase all day long.   The day’s full schedule of events is as follows:

  • 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Registration
  • 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Open Clinic (presentation by Director of Instruction, Tom Perkins)
  • 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Chipping, Putting, Full Swing Contests (limited to the first 60 participants)
  • 2 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.: Closing remarks by Tom Perkins
  • 2:30 p.m.: 9-hole golf outing on The Padre Course (limited to the first 60 participants)

Participants of the 9-hole shotgun must participate in the clinic.  Shotgun is complimentary and requires children 15 and under to play with an adult. Recommended age of clinic and shotgun participants is 9 years old and up.
