Pristine Bay Resort, home of The Black Pearl Golf Course designed by Perry and Pete Dye, is exceeding construction benchmarks as it moves toward completion.

Pristine Bay is located on the tropical island of Roatan, one of the Caribbean’s last undiscovered jewels. Accessible via non-stop flights from a number of North American cities, including New York, Miami, Houston and Atlanta, it’s idyllically situated adjacent to the world’s second largest barrier reef.

Routing of The Black Pearl, Roatan’s first golf course, is complete and several holes have been shaped and grassed. Nine holes are expected to be ready for play by Fall, and all 18 will be finished by the first quarter of 2010. Alternately hugging the coastline and weaving through the island’s foothills, the par-72, 7,157-yard layout will have 14 holes with Caribbean views and a Dye-signature, island-green par 3.

Development of the property’s residential component is also progressing, as is the resort’s Beach Club. The first phase of luxury villas are well underway, electric and water utilities have been hooked up, and all access roads paved. Lots start at $230,000 and range up to $700,000. Two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas are priced from $600,000 to $1 million, while condominiums range from $348,000 to $700,000.

Pristine Bay’s Beach Club, gateway to one of the world’s great scuba and snorkeling playgrounds, is slated for a March 2010 unveiling. Not to be overlooked, the development’s new sales center is almost complete and strategically located to offer visitors and prospective buyers a bird’s-eye view of the entire property as it gently descends to the edge of the Caribbean’s azure waters.

“Although many resort projects in the Caribbean have been delayed or altogether postponed, Pristine Bay’s construction continues at a steady pace,” says Mario Toriello, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Pristine Bay Resort. “With the golf course and first phase of residences nearing completion, Pristine Bay is poised to take its first step toward becoming the region’s premier golf and lifestyle development.”

Roatan’s an ideal location for second-home ownership or retirement, as it has exceptionally favorable property and tax laws for foreigners. They can own up to three-quarters of an acre and Pristine Bay offers all-important title insurance. Property taxes are approximately $1.30 for every $1,000 of assessed value and there are no income tax, sales tax or import duties.
