Sanctuary’s Sunday in Paradise and a Trip to Bungalow

I’ve been known to curse the Valley from time to time. After 8 years of living here, I still can’t get used to the endless driving and black hole of heat we dive into every June. People wonder why I’m so pale when I live in AZ, but it’s just because I can’t bear to go outside.

That said, this utopian weekend reminded me of all the reasons why we call AZ home.

My New Year’s Resolution is to build this lifestyle for myself.

For a start, the mild, slightly overcast weekend was exactly what I needed to get out and enjoy life (and get over the terrible cold I’ve had for more than a week). We’re also back to the point where it’s sunny out in the early AM, which gives that burst of morning energy. The winter days of hitting snooze repeatedly are gone.

First on my hit list for the weekend was a trip to the incredible Bungalow Furniture and Accessories in North Scottsdale- I’d been stalking their blog, and wanted to see all these enchanting goodies in real life.

Bungalow’s many degrees of splendor.

I could spend a year in that place. Countless room vignettes meld into each other- you feel like you’re trespassing in Cameron Diaz’s fancy coastal home. Every space is chock-full of one-of-a-kind and vintage items, rustic pieces juxtaposed perfectly with glamorous accessories, with the prettiest coffee table books you can imagine and trays stocked like minibars.

There were about 10 of these, each more fab than the next.

As much as I want to kick back on the insane furniture, my favorite part of Bungalow are the accessories and jewelry- every single piece is interesting and unlike anything you’d find in a shopping mall. L-O-V-E. I got an amazing pair of vintage beaded earrings on sale, even though it was this pair I came to visit:

Look pretty here, even more fabulous in real life.

I also picked up a really cool tin box for all my baking junk (where you you keep your frosting, sprinkles, baking powder and cupcake papers?) and this Love Quotes summer scarf, which was half-off because it’s an old color.

Summer scarves are a total staple, and Love Quotes does them perfectly.

After I got that out of my system, I met some friends at Sanctuary’s “Sunday in Paradise” event.  The alfresco concert series is free-of-charge on Sundays between 2 & 6 p.m. and is the perfect excuse to lounge around like a worry-free vacationer at the Valley’s sweetest resort.

Imagine about 300 fabulous couples like this.

Let me set the scene. The event wasn’t as quaint and relaxing as the above photo (which I found on their Web site) made it seem; their entire lobby, balcony, Jade Bar and lawn were standing-room only.

Hipster people young and old arrived with blankets and walked around barefoot listening to cool tunes- extra bars were set up along the perimeter of the lawn and waiters were circling with delicious appetizers. It was an absolutely perfect sun-basking atmosphere. Which I normally am not a fan of.

What did you do this weekend?
