A new dining offering will be opening in Los Angeles next week. And while the occurrence will not be out of the norm for the bustling city brimming with hip eateries and unique restaurants, the opening will be a huge deal for Chef Warren Schwartz. Already an acclaimed chef in the Los Angeles area and beyond, the Tuesday March 17th opening of Chef Warren’s Westside Tavern will mark his very first restaurant venture.

The location is prime, near Landmark Theaters in the Westside Pavilion, making it easy for Angelenos to get to from anywhere. The core of the dining experience at Westside Tavern rests on an original concept inspired by Chef Schwartz, who is also a managing partner of Westside Tavern, called “California Tavern Cuisine”. At the center of this modern West Coast American tavern is an effort to make California’s seasonal produce accessible to the people of Los Angeles.
“Our goal is to bring California comfort food to life in a way that is honest, approachable, and affordable so more people can enjoy it more often,” says Schwartz. Representative dishes at Westside Tavern are one-of-a-kind menu items made with fresh seasonal ingredients including Baked Artichoke & Fontina Dip; Burrata Mozzarella B.L.T. made with Nueske’s Bacon and Wild Arugula; Hand-Cut Handkerchief Pasta with Fennel Sausage; King Crab & Avocado Salad; and a Spit-Roasted James Ranch Lamb Sandwich.
The main dining room’s 50-foot long rich walnut bar sets the tone upon entry into the restaurant. Westside Tavern will also offer a list of specialty cocktails inspired by early American favorites and beer from a thoughtful assortment of California micro- and craftsman brews. The company says the wine list traverses major and minor varietals from mostly small California producers and includes wines-by-the-glass such as Sanford Chardonnay, Bonny Doon Sangiovese, and Paige 23 Sauvignon Blanc and bottles such as Olivier Le Flaive Bourgogne Blanc, Paul Hobbs Felino, and Fantinel Prosecco.
The cuisine at Westside Tavern is highly anticipated as patrons prepare to enjoy Chef Schwartz’s cuisine, however the ambiance set forth by the 10,000-square-foot restaurant’s aesthetics also has well-known appeal. Westside Tarvern is designed by LA-based modernist Architect Tony Pleskow and offers an environment that is at once modern, warm, and dramatic. Espresso-colored leather booths rest beneath a lofted ceiling of raw steel and Douglas fir beams supporting distinctive hand-beaten brass pendant light fixtures from renowned British Designer Tom Dixon. The enduring craftsmanship and design extends to Westside Tavern’s two private dining rooms, which can accommodate special events of up to 100 people. Bottom line, the tavern-style cuisine is complemented by a tavern-inspired setting with a chic twist.
