Hornblower Cruises for the Holidays in San Diego

In November I went to San Diego for a few days of vacation, and while there, I decided to try out a few things I had never done before on my many San Diego trips. At the top of the list was to try a Hornblower Dinner Cruise. I had thought this might be a cheesy, touristy attraction, but I was so wrong. Hornblower offers a variety of great dinner cruises there are nothing but glamorous, fun and delicious.

I went on a regular Friday night Dinner Dance Cruise ($70 per person, plus tax and tip) on The Inspiration, which is a 1,000-person super yacht. With boarding pass in hand, we first stopped for a photo op, before entering the lovely ship, parked in the downtown San Diego harbor at Grape Street Pier. All of the passengers were dressed for a semi-formal evening, and many people were celebrating anniversaries, birthdays or family events. It is a great way to spend a special evening out.
Everyone is greeted with a glass of Champagne and escorted to their table. It’s best to reserve a table right next to the window, so that you get the best view of the city as the boat makes its way through the bay.
The three course dinner begins with fresh bread, optional appetizers and salad. Then a main course and desert follow. The food is excellent, and the wine menu offers some great choices. The price point is very much a good deal, considering you get a full meal, fabulous entertainment (a live band or DJ plays great tunes, perfect for dancing) and a lovely trip around the San Diego bay.
This holiday season would be an excellent time to take the family (or a special someone) out for a unique holiday meal that will not soon be forgotten. Dress up, head out on the water and see the city sky light lit up for the holidays. What coudl be more festive?
All this month, there are numerous special cruises to choose from. Here are some that I would recommend checking out:
Friday Dec. 11 & 18 and Saturday Dec 12 & 19: Holiday Gala 3.5 Hour Dinner Cruise ($100)
Friday Dec 11 & 18: Holiday Lights & Sips Sunset Cruise ($39)
Friday Dec 25: Christmas Day Dinner Buffet ($82)
Friday Dec 31: Premier New Year’s Eve Seated Dinner ($169) or Blue Moon Buffet New Year’s Eve Cruise ($129)
Tickets can be purchased for all of these events (and MANY more, from lunch cruises to happy hour cruises) at www.hornblower.com.
