I left off yesterday talking about the food at the Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort, and how impressive it is. I have never been to an all-inclusive that offers this quality and variety of food and drink.

As I mentioned before, my favorite part is that guests are encouraged to order anything they want to their suites, anytime they want. Even in the middle of the night, if you want cookies and milk, they will bring it to you at no additional charge. Want a bottle of Champagne and a plate of gourmet cheeses – no extra charge either. It’s truly ALL inclusive, and I can appreciate that. The room service menu is thick with delicious items; my favorites (perfect for a 4pm snack after sunning all day) include the ahi tuna appetizer, the cheese plate and the rainbow salad (fresh tomatoes, avocado and mushroom with balsamic).

While the sound of breakfast in bed via room service is so good, during my stay, I could not resist the extensive breakfast buffet at the oceanfront, open-air resort restaurant called Azul. Surem there were the traditional Mexican and American favorites – rows and rows of hot breakfast food – but what I loved the most was all the fresh fruits, juices, yogurts and pastries. Every morning I made myself a custom granola and yogurt dish, topped with loads of fresh berries, tropical fruits and hand-crafted hibiscus honey. I would eat that every day if possible, but unfortunately not every breakfast is spent at a five diamond resort. The fresh smoked salmon, cheeses and meats, also added to my healthy breakfast every day.

For lunch I would take the liberty of ordering food and drinks to my cabana in the adult-only section of the pool deck. Here, I would peacefully munch on fresh tuna salads, shrimp fajitas and fresh fruit plates, while sipping wine spritzers and the occasional pina colada. There is nothing better than eating fresh seafood while in your bathing suit, by the ocean.

In contrast to lunch time, dinner at Grand Velas is more of a formal affair, with three high-end restaurants to choose from. There is Frida, a restaurant inspired by Frida Kahlo, which offers fabulous Mexican cuisine – I loved the tortilla soup and the unique desserts. Next there is Lucca, a lovely Italian eatery, with live piano music and fantastic service. The ravioli is to die for and the beef tenderloin is also something to write home about. Ask the sommelier to pair your meal with their best wines – remember, it’s all inclusive, so go for the good stuff! The third dinner restaurant is Piaf, a stunning, modern French eatery on the main floor of the resort. Try the delicious pinot noir, the fantastic soups, the lamb, the fish – and don’t miss the soufflés for dessert. The presentation of the food rivals some of the bext formal dining spots out there – you really do not feel like this is resort dining, since its so elegant and top quality.

Remember, all of the dinner restaurants require reservations and elegant resort wear – no shorts allowed.

Tomorrow, I will discuss my spa experience and wish that I was there all over again!
