Welcome Back Devils – Here’s Where to Party This Weekend

It’s that dreaded time of year when school starts back up and temperatures seem to hover in the triple digits all through the day and night. With Tempe filling back up with students, it’s no surprise that bars and clubs are waiting with open arms and full cups. This weekend marks the official first weekend of the school year and drinks will be flowing – it is ASU after all. Read on for some of the weekend’s best events in Downtown Tempe, and the perfect way to forget about classes starting – literally.

Blasted Barley-Thursday, 10pm

It’s time to pretend you don’t notice the blistering temperatures, and celebrate a season us Zonies know nothing about – winter! Blasted Barley is hosting a “Blizzard Party” with Ice Luge Shots and Blasted Sno-cones. The “hottest snow bunny” in attendance will win $500, or the value of one textbook. Dress down and drink up bunnies, it’s time to win some school supplies.

School of Rock-Thursday, 10pm

For those not quite of legal drinking age, the classic Mill Ave. nightclub will be hosting their “Welcome Week” starting Thursday night at 10pm. The 18 and up party will include DJ’s and be hosted by KISS FM’s Julian.

Tempe Marketplace & Phoenix New Times Beer Olympics-Friday, 8-11pm

The popular outdoor shopping center along with Phoenix New Times will be hosting its Second Annual Beer Olympics where competitors can compete in classic collegiate level drinking games like beer pong, flip cup, corn hole and Jenga. Compete to take your drinking skills further in their Triathlon and Decathlon events. The best part? You can register as a team for a cheaper price. Tickets get you into the event, plus two drink tickets and access to tons of games and gift cards. Consider this the pregame to your entire school year. C.A.S.A. Sunba-Saturday, 7pm-12am

The centrally located Mill Ave. bar will be hosting it’s ‘back to school’ block party this Saturday which promises to encourage plenty of partying. The event runs from 7pm to midnight and will be hosted by Timmy Trumpet, Australian house music DJ. Afterwards, find your friends and pour into nearby bars for the final few hours of your evening.
