Opposite the Lucky Strike bowling alley, but at the same address, and tucked beyond the arcade games, visitors to CitySpace will find a very grown-up event and show space, accented by a revolving selection of paintings, and oftentimes, live “art performers.”

“I invite artists to paint live while on stage every Saturday night,” says curator, Jen Deveroux. Deveroux has taken over the creative direction as well as events planning for Gypsy Bar for about the past 10 months. In addition to painters who produce works live onstage during events, Deveroux also selects featured artists to have a stay on the interior walls for a month or two. Currently on display at Gypsy Bar are wild, blaring paintings by the eclectic downtown Phoenix artist, Aztec Smurf. Look for more to come, she says, in the fall and winter seasons.
