Chartreuse Art Gallery is the latest addition to the Grand Avenue Arts District, in the historic Braggs Pie Factory building in the former old Frontal Lobe space.

 

Chartreuse Art Gallery is a beautiful contemporary art space in the heart of the historic Grand Avenue, focuses on showcasing a variety of artwork in all mediums. The Gallery is operated by Nancy Hill, who is a local entrepreneur and arts advocate. She is also the owner of the wonderful Hazel & Violet, a small custom letterpress printing shop http://hazelandvioletink.com/Welcome.html. Chartreuse is Hill’s third gallery in downtown Phoenix with her previous two spaces being torn down and redeveloped by commercial developers.

The gallery is managed and curated by Mike Oleskow, who has an extensive arts background and with Phoenix. He formerly owner of Maz & Ruby Gallery, director of After Hours Gallery, was the former president of Artlink, and was recently named Cultural Curator of The FOUND: RE Hotel.

Chartreuse Art Gallery opened their doors this fall with their inaugural exhibition, “Hot Summer Nights” that featured a incredible collaborative project by two local photographers: Jared Elizares and Catherine Slye showcasing “images of Phoenix seen through loving eyes”. Followed up by the solo exhibition of Shauna Thibault “Wanderings” that debuted the artist’s new body of work exploring Ink wash on wood works. Highlighting pattern created by using a distant perspective of people in motion.

The latest exhibition features “5 Earths” showcasing the larger than life photography of Jetsonorama/ Chip Thomas. “The photographs in this show are a retrospective of the past 25 years, the majority of images are from the Navajo nation, there are images from the African continent, Brazil, Cuba and the United States and represent the mini “Family of Man” catalog”, states Chartreuse. This promises to be a must see exhibition and they will host the opening reception this First Friday, December 4th from 6pm until 10pm.Chartreusegallery 2
