March welcomes the highly anticipated Andy Warhol: Portraits exhibition to the Phoenix Art Museum, examining the iconic Pop Artist Andy Warhol and his affinity and obsession with fame and celebrity that permeated his life and art.

This exhibition promises to be engaging and dare we say iconic, showcasing a vast collection of artwork with about 200 objects on display. Offering a look at Warhol’s fascinating forty-year career through his screenprints, drawings, paintings, photographs, sculpture and videos. This stunning exhibition will open on March 4th and it will be on view until June 21, 2015. Highlighting original works by Warhol that have been organized and loaned by The Andy Warhol Museum, one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.

The Phoenix Art Museum has planned a very special March First Friday celebration “Exploding Plastic Inevitable” corresponding with the opening of the Andy Warhol: Portraits exhibition. The evening will feature cocktails, light works, movies, ultrasounds, and music provided by DJentrification. Plus local band Wooden Indian will perform, special dance performances from Conder/dance and Liliana Gomez, and visual art provided by local artists Yai Cecream and Francisco Flores. Also don’t miss checking out Four Chambers Press, Jar of Buttons, Tumble Tees, Palabra | hair.art.collective, and vintage fashions. First Friday, March 6 offers free general admission to the museum with extended hours from 6pm until 10 pm. Majority of the exhibitions are free with admission including PLATINUM: Contemporary Photography, Mysteries from Europe: Works by Unidentified Artists , All That Glitters is Not Gold: Platinum Photography from the Center for Creative Photography , Fashioned In America and Sacred Stories and Images of the Buddha: The Vessantara Jataka Scroll. Admission to the special exhibitions during the March 6th First Friday event require a small fee, Andy Warhol: Portraits is only $2, as well as Leonardo da Vinci's Codex Leicester and The Power of Observation - $8 for Adults, $5 for youth 6-17.

The Phoenix Art Museum is proud to participate in the exciting Artlink Phoenix First Friday and is included on the trolley line. No need to worry about parking downtown, simply park, enjoy the Museum and then go and explore the amazing downtown Phoenix art scene! Each month this bustling art scene features over 100 galleries, artist studios, and local businesses participating each month with extended hours on First Friday’s running from 6-10pm featuring the Roosevelt Row Arts District and the Grand Avenue District, both who have been recognized nationally for their incredible arts and engaging events.
