"Covert Operations: Investigating the Knonwn Unknowns" examines important themes of secrecy, disclosure, violence, power, subterfuge, surveillance, territory, geography and the visible versus the hidden. This fascinating exhibition showcases 37 artworks created by 13 national and international artists that utilized a variety of research methods, legal procedures and government resources to create thought provoking artworks. Exploring fascinating subjects of classified military sites, reconnaissance surveillance, terrorist profiling, narcotics, nuclear weapons, et al. “Covert Operations: Investigating the Known Unknowns” will be on view at SMOCA until January 11, 2015.

Next up in the SMoCA Lounge is the latest film from No Festival Required, Uncommon Cinema The Human Scale and is directed by Andreas M. Dalsgaard. “Stunningly photographed, The Human Scale travels around the world to explore how Gehl and other like minded designers, city planners, and urban activists have begun to transform such cities as New York, Beijing, Christchurch, and London.” Currently about 50% of the world’s population lives in urban areas, with an expected increase of 80% by 2050. The film highlights Danish architect and urban planner Gehl has extensively studied urban life, which focuses on the places where people meet, interact, live, and behave. The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale 85251. General admission to the museum is $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 15 are free.
