Mysteries From Europe PAM

She will succeed James Ballinger, who has been with the Phoenix Art Museum for almost 40 years announced his retirement, leading to a seven month search for his successor. Cruz will take over her new post as PAM Director on February 1st, 2015, leaving her current position as the executive director of Artpace, a nonprofit contemporary art gallery in San Antonio.

Who is Amada Cruz you ask? Cruz was born in Havana, Cuba and immigrated with her family to Chicago, later settled in New York. Cruz has an impressive resume in the Arts, which includes working as program director for United States Artists in Los Angeles, executive director of Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue in New York City, Center for Curatorial Studies Museum at Bard College, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden at the Smithsonian Institution. One has to admit that Cruz has the background and experience to takeover as PAM director and if she is able to continue the momentum she has had in San Antonio, then watch out Phoenix! The Phoenix Art Museum is located at 1625 N. Central Avenue Phoenix 85004 and it is open Wednesday through Sunday 10am-5pm. For more information please visit their website http://www.phxart.org/. Images courtesy of the PAM.
