TV Fashion Guide

As a style and beauty blogger I naturally gravitate toward other blogs or blog/magazine sites like refinery29.com, whowhatwear.com, Cupcakes and Cashmere and so on and so forth (I could probably list for days the wonderful blogs out there). So when I decided I wanted to write a blog about fashion as seen on TV I knew I could count on one of my favorite blogs to lead the way—Possessionista.

So with a bit of inspiration from the Possessionista and my favorite shows in mind I gave it a shot. Note that I don’t quite have relationships with on-set stylists and the such, so not all the outfits (if any) will be exact, but I hope to inspire a few new outfit ideas nonetheless.

Loving Blake Lively a.k.a. Serena Van Der Woodsen in this shimmering cardigan and necktie. If you’ve noticed tie-neck blouses have been a trend for a while now… Jason Wu designed a few for Target and Rachel Zoe has more than one fabulous blouse in her line.

For A Spring appropriate take on this look:
1. A sleeveless tie neck blouse – Jason Wu, $565 at Nordstrom
2. Lightweight bright colored cardigan – J. Crew, $158

Mad Men:

Dolce & Gabbana, $1295; Adrianna Papell, $148 At Nordstrom

This beautiful printed silk chiffon floral dress that Joan is wearing in season 4 is actually vintage according to stylist Janie Bryant. Though glamorous, Bryant says that a dress like this could also be appropriate at the office… of course that applied to Joan in the 60s but I think it could still work. Here are a few ladylike dresses for any occasion.

The New Girl:

I am a fan of Zooey Deschanel’s fashion choices on and off the screen (and no one can deny that she has some of the best bangs in Hollywood). Her spunky, youthful, and yet quite ladylike style translates on the sitcom set in this orange, pleated button-up dress and green cardigan. Can someone say, “color blocking.” I really didn’t want to say it but I don’t think there is any getting away from it.

All you need is a bright cardigan, perhaps the same one from Blake’s look above and this coral shirt dress from Miu Miu, $1290 at Net-A-Porter.

What are some of your favorite fashionable TV shows and characters?
