One of the pieces that I find myself collecting (besides shoes and handbags of course) is the cardigan. No matter the season or the weather I always have a cardigan on hand. It is the one layering piece that can truly save the day. For instance, you walk into a grocery store and it is freezing and instead of looking like a crazy person rubbing your arms up and down incessantly, you simply grab your cardigan out of your bag. Or my favorite is the winter-cold office in the winter… It maybe be 59 degrees outside, but the office must surely be kept at a comfortable 50 degrees—you got it, grab your handy dandy cardigan.

The Inspiration
We think Jessica Hart got it just right when she was photographed in New York last month wearing a chic cardigan-accented outfit. Hart’s classic navy J.Crew Collection Featherweight Cashmere Cardigan ($178) in Navy, casually unbuttoned over a vintage tailored oxford shirt and vintage accordion pleat midi, is a nod to that insouciant prep school style. Hart balances the look by accessorizing with industrial accents, such as chunky silver rings and bracelets.
