5 Wardrobe Classics Reinvented

On Wednesday night I rolled out the welcome mat for my book club where we enjoyed a late but tasty dinner, desert and of course good conversation. At one point in the evening the conversation always turns to matters of the day…how are the kids, what’s new etc, but interesting enough at my house the girls often find themselves dipping into one or many of my stacks of books and magazines that are perched on my Lucite coffee table. In fact a few of the girls were so deep into fashion advice from Nina Garcia and Amanda Brooks that the conversation turned to fashion trends.

The topic then became about what pieces to buy and have forever in your wardrobe. Of course the requisite trench coat, crisp white shirt, great pair of jeans, a good blazer, black pants all came to mind, So I was especially delighted to see the latest magazine from Net- A- Porter which gives the old classics a new twist. Inspired by the fashion trend setters of the day Net -A- Porters maps out savvy style tips to make that striped shirt look fresh and new and that plain white shirt look like a star.

The Classic Trench coat gets some help from J Brands Jeans, a Marc by Marc Jacobs shearling and some Michael Kors ankle strap heels.

Or how about that classic striped tee made so famous by Jean Seberg in Breathless (yes we know it’s one of my favorites) As noted on the Giambatista runway the simple piece was paired with evening items to give it a new take. In this case a DKNY blazer and a Michael Kors ostrich feather mini

How about the ever versatile blazer that can go from office to evening and still look sophisticated? This time it’s layered with another blazer on top and Victoria Beckham denim and a Lanvin clutch for a polished and fashion forward look.

And really who is to argue with Anna Della Russo when she slips a classic white shirt underneath a sequin mini dress? The Adam beaded silk dress shown here makes for an unexpected match when worn over your classic button up, add tights and some sky high heels like these Alaia ruffled ones and you have an outfit worthy of your own press.

Of course I just swoon over any combo that Carine Roitfeld puts together and this double- breasted coat is not exception. The over the top boots lend an edgy flare to this ensemble. Add Christian Louboutins and a Yves Saint Laurent scarf to your coat for a bold statement.
