Milan Fashion Week Reviews

As we continue our coverage of the Fashion Week we move to Milan where some of the world’s most recognizable fashion names make their Spring 2013 debut. Fashion Week in this city is basically like going to all of the best stores in your favorite mall: Gucci, Prada, MaxMara, Emporio Armani, Versace and really the list goes on….and on. Italy is definitely the place to be this week!

Let’s start with Emporio Armani because I was hooked (line and sinker) after the first look, an androgynous flirty plaid jacket and shorts. Cute tops, short skirts, and easy dresses followed. This collection is no doubt geared toward a younger demographic than the house is known for, which seemed to be confirmed by the fresh-faced models.

The last half of the collection was seemingly even more fun than the first with pastel dresses, tied bow belts, sheen emblazoned short suits, and faux suspenders; it’s kind of girly wit attitude.

MaxMara gave us an expedition of color or maybe better stated colors fit for an expedition with camel, moss green, suede and sealed it with animal prints.

I’m going gaga for the oversize everything in this show. The lapels, sleeves, and buttons, are fit for the most stylish giants… or maybe just the stylish girls with giant confidence.

“Dream is forbidden, nostalgia is forbidden, to be too sweet is not good. Everything we used to feel historically, now you can’t enjoy. The clothes are the expression of this impossible dream,” Miuccia Prada tells style.com backstage. As dreamy as that may sound, I think Ms. Prada actually did just that.

The clothes are fit for a dreamland with solid-colored fabrics serving as the canvas for a flower appliques. There was a noticeable Asian inspiration with ogrami and geisha inspired folded satin.

The restraint was truly endearing and charming. Among my favorite looks is this off the sholder pink satin top, the structure is to die for. I also can’t help but want to chop off all my hair, invest in some serious hair wax, buy a foundation shade or two lighter and draw on some kissable red lips. My top beauty pick of Fashion Month so far!

Would you wear the Prada beauty look?
