Best Dressed SAG Awards

Last night the SAG Awards took place in Tinseltown. Yes, this is another awards show review my darling readers, but don’t fret because New York Fashion Week is right around the corner and we won’t have to talk about the red carpet again for nearly a month.

Generally I adore watching every awards show, but this time I had so much going on that I confess I only saw part of the festivities… just long enough to catch the hits and the misses on the red carpet. The interesting thing about the SAG awards is that although it’s another precursor to the Oscars, in the past it was a slightly dressed down version of the Golden Globes..yet now as with all things, insert stylists into the mix and you get a flurry of safe and elegant choices to bump up the red carpet.

January Jones

So who were my top best dressed picks? Though I usually love her fashion choices but rarely her hair and makeup choices to go with them, this year January Jones finally won me over. The side view of that sleek pompadour with the red lip and her amazing black and white Prabal Gurung gown had me at hello! It was sleek and sophisticate and architectural from top to bottom.

Though she always looks every bit the bombshell, this time Sofia Vergara in white was like a throwback to the 50’s I imagines Eva Gardener or Sophia Loren wearing the same kind of dress in their heyday. And Vergara’s opening line from the audience was an absolute winner in and of itself.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence once again took home a statue and shut it down in a breathtaking blue Dior Haute Couture gown. Apparently viewers thought that Jennifer had a little malfunction walking up to accept her award… but no need to worry, the dress was actually tiered and no harm actually occurred.

Though at the Globes I thought Kerry Washington looked good… this time she took the white dress thing to a whole new level in Rodarte. The studded and very fitted bodice just screamed of sophisticated drama and fit her like a glove.

And in the pretty in pink category for me Nina Dobrev in that curve hugging Elie Saab pretty much made me say Lea Michelle who? The fit the color and the hair and makeup were all so beautifully done that the other pink dresses paled by comparison.

There were so many lovely gowns from Jenna Fischer to Tina Fey and Marion Cotillard and yes, Anne Hathaway who landed on so many worst dressed lists, but I thought she looked rather like a classic gamine… fresh and feminine.
