3 Easy Summer Party Hairstyles

Tis the season for parties, whether at the park, a hotel pool, or posh lounge you’re sure to be invited to at least one big bash before summer-end. The best part is that generally these summer get-togethers allow for causal dress ranging from a tank and shorts to a charming maxi dress. The worst part… figuring out what to do with the hair. With 108-degree days a cascade of curls isn’t exactly comfortable or manageable.

Here are 3 classic hairstyles with a little twist that will give your casual summer look that extra bit of glamour.

The braid is one of the most classic looks dating back to, well forever. Now, I know that the very word “braid” may evoke childhood memories of squirming as your mom pulled and tugged your hair into submission. Trust me, it is nothing like you remember.

One of the most popular braids to wear right now is the Halo or Milkmaid braid. It is a great alternative to the classic updo if you’re invited to a summer soiree or wedding.

How to get the look:
1. Part hair into two ponytails and secure just above the ears.
2. Braid each ponytail and secure with elastic band.
3. Cross each braid to the opposite side and secure with bobby pins; tuck ends if necessary.

This style works best with long hair but can also be achieved with a braided headband and a low bun or pony.

Next is my go-to hairstyle for fall, winter, spring, and summer—the chignon (a type of bun). This look is great for a hot day at the park or an all-day pool party.

How to get the look:
1. Pull hair into a bun and secure at the nape of your neck.
2. Get creative: part bangs to the side (shown above), gently pull hair at front for a more messy but chic look, or
try a looser bun with a few strands intentionally left out for a romantic feel.
3. Secure any loose piece with bobby pins if necessary.
4. Spray with hair spray. Try a spray that is more flexible if you plan on hitting the pool.

If you plan on lounging by the pool instead of swimming in it take it up a notch with a fancy headband.

Ponytails generally have that girl-next door reputation, but if your going for a more edgy look try this modern ponytail.

How to get the look:
1. Tease hair at the crown.
2. Pull hair back while pushing top section of hair forward and secure with elastic band. Use bobby pins if necessary.
3. Slick sides down.
4. Finish with hair spray.

For added poof use a volumizing spray before blow drying.
